Oh my gosh this horse is so fun. We welcomed QoPilot PF to the farm in April and boy is he a stunner. This horse is the total package. Sweet, sensible, smart and oh so fanccyyyyy!
He was started with a dressage foundation and naturally I, a dressage rider, absolutely see him coming up centerline. Gorgeous ground covering trot, uphill canter, overtrack with a swinging walk. But he’s also dabbled in hunter jumper land and done some field jumping as well. He had the winter off before joining us and we had the pleasure of helping him regain his strength and stamina. He’s proved day after day how willing and smart he is and we can’t get enough of him.
When Maverick arrived, we began documenting his training journey for everyone to see on our instagram . This is one heckuva young horse and we were so excited to take our time to develop him for the show ring – whichever one he told us he liked best! Turns out we never even started him back over fences because the dressage came so beautifully for him. He’s developed so nicely through his body, is really trusting himself now and the contact is getting more and more steady.
Admittedly he’s slightly “behind” for his age but he has all the buttons for first level including lateral work that has come leaps and bounds in the last month. He moves nicely off the leg and into the bridle, never heavy, never rushed. Hacks out bravely both alone or in company. No vices, stands well for the vet and farrier, clips, loads, turns out nicely. Very suitable for a junior or adult amateur who ride with a bit of tact and feeling. He may not be grandma proof yet but he’s definitely cousin susan proof. We aim to show him this late summer (oy the heat) and price will increase with show miles. Offering to the right partner with introductory pricing before he hits the first salute. But eeee I’m so excited to see him in braids!!!

May update: Bringing this horse along is so much fun! He is building strength day by day, figuring out how to keep his inside shoulder up, and oh wow is his trot so effortless and light. He hacks around the property like a pro and has dabbled in trot poles. He’s currently showing that he loves dressage (YES! DRESSAGE WINS!) and is so well suited for it. The walk is drool worthy.
July update: We just love him. We (and by we I mean Teigan since she has to do all of the riding right now) have been a little swamped this summer so we haven’t gotten to any dressage shows yet but hope to debut him next month. He continues to impress us even when we don’t devote as much time to him as he deserves. Even after a few days off he comes out ready to work right where he left off. So when he was fidgeting with the bit a few weeks ago we knew we needed to check his teeth and sure enough he had significant ulcers on both sides. His dental anatomy itself didn’t look sharp enough to cause such ulceration so when he had his first Magnawave session yesterday and our practitioner Jackie commented that he “sucked in” his cheeks when he was really concentrating on something it all made sense. Like biting your lip or fingernails, he developed a little coping habit for when he’s either focusing really hard or a little bit anxious. Not to worry, we can help with that buddy! He’ll definitely be getting regular visits with Jackie – he fell asleep halfway through! He’s also loving mixing in field days with arena work and our pond field has just enough inclines to subtly work the buns while seeming like play. Check out his field video above for floppy ears in action around the pond!
August 5 update: he was so freakin’ fancy during his schooling ride this morning that I’m looking at show dates as I’m waiting for video to upload. Holy cow is Mav so pretty. I couldn’t be more excited about his progress. YAY DRESSAGE!!!

About his breeding:
Qo-Pilot aka “Maverick” is by the Oldenburg stallion Quilot Z. Quilot’s pedigree is filled with some of the most influential and talented bloodlines in Jumper breeding. Quick Star, Galoubet A and Pilot to name a few. Quilot himself was successful as an Open Jumper at an early age; for instance, he claimed a 6th place in the 1997 World Championship finals for 5-year-olds under Jos Lansink. From Quilot Z`s first crop the 3-yr-old products Quick Star Z and Quota Z were selected for the Z-Auction at the 2000 World Championships for Young Horses.
Qo-Pilot’s dam Pikturesque is by Pik Kasso. Pik Kasso is the son of Phantast who’s pedigree includes some of the finest dressage and jumping bloodlines. His sire is the Hanoverian stallion Pik Solo, who has produced many successful performance horses at all levels of competition. His grandsire is the legendary Pik Koeing who sired 19 approved Hanoverian stallions and over 200 main stud book mares. Phantast’s dam is the Westphalian mare Dusalin, an outstanding jumper. She produced many premium foals including Prinz David, the sale topper at the 1991 Glenwood Farm Production sale. Phantast’s Grandsire Renaldo, known for his elasticity and good temperament, was one of the most requested stallions at the station at Warendorf in Germany, producing many outstanding sons and German auction horses.
Pikturesque’s Dam sire is the Donnerhall son, Donner Bube. Although his lineage is laden with dressage bloodlines, it is far from devoid of jumping blood – his sire line is that of Paul Schockemohle’s Olympic silver medalist and $1.5 million winning jumper, Deister.
Donner Bube’s sire, Donnerhall, now immortalized in bronze, has had a dominant influence in the dressage arena worldwide and Pik Bube I, who has 15 approved sons and nearly 200 Main Studbook mares, is a strong influence for dressage and jumping abilities. Grundstein I is likely best known in Canada as the sire of the CET dressage mount, Gilbona, but he also sired internationally ranked jumpers in the Oldenburg, Hanoverian and Westphalian registries and got 13 approved sons in only 7 years at stud in Germany.
Donner Bube’s third dam, Alinda is also the dam of Purioso, a stallion who has numerous KWPN offspring in the world rankings for dressage and jumping. In actual fact, horses of international caliber, in all three Olympic disciplines have been generated by the very bloodlines that Donner Bube exhibits. Not only do these names stand alone – they are consistently found combined in the ancestry of top horses.
Winner of his stallion test, Donner Bube has a powerhouse pedigree resulting from breeding the best to the best, generation after generation. He provided a unique opportunity for breeders whether they are interested in producing dressage horses or show jumpers.
Although Donner Bube has been shown successfully as a jumper, he has the talent to be competitive in the upper levels of dressage- just as his lineage indicates. In fact, the depth of dressage and jumping blood he provides is hard to duplicate
